Sometimes the best travel experiences happen when you go off the script. Instead of heading to Pristina as planned, I decided to make an impromptu stop in Prizren, Kosovo. Even though I only stayed for three hours, I made the most of my time in this charming city.

Places to Visit in Prizren:

While my visit was brief, here are the must-see spots in this picturesque city:

  • Prizren Fortress: A short hike rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountains.
  • Shadervan Square: The beating heart of Prizren, this lively square is full of charm and cultural essence.
  • Sinan Pasha Mosque: An architectural gem from the Ottoman era that stands proudly in the city.
  • Lumbardhi River Walk: A serene stroll along the riverbanks lets you soak in the local atmosphere.
  • Stone Bridge: A historic bridge that connects the past with the present, offering a perfect photo opportunity.

The Friendliest People I’ve Met

Prizren truly stole my heart—not just for its beauty, but for its people. They were kind, welcoming, and genuinely curious. The way they looked at me wasn’t intimidating; it was inviting. It felt like they wanted to strike up a conversation or lend a helping hand. I can honestly say these were some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met in my life. If I had stayed longer, I feel I would have left with more than just memories—I’d have made lasting friendships.

While wandering the vibrant streets, snapping photos here and there, I was approached by a group of students. They cheerfully asked me where I was from, sparking a lively conversation about travel and culture. Later, a passerby greeted me with a heartfelt “Welcome to Kosovo!” that felt as if it carried the collective warmth of the city. Even children playing with their dog paused to chat with me, their curiosity as refreshing as the cool mountain air. I hadn’t expected such encounters, and yet each one enriched my journey in ways words can scarcely describe.

One of my favorite moments was when I stopped to take a selfie. Instead of simply passing by, the students joined in, asking questions with an energy that was contagious. I remember laughing so much in those few minutes—it was a reminder of how spontaneous and beautiful human connections can be.

I have no regrets about changing my plans to visit Prizren. The warmth of the locals alone made it worthwhile, and I’m already planning to come back someday.

Journey Back to Tirana

At 6:30, I made my way back to the bus station to catch a private van to Tirana. The fare was just €15, and you can book via the GetByBus app or pay cash at the station. The process was smooth, with locals happily guiding me without expecting anything in return—a testament to their incredible hospitality.

Expenses Breakdown:

Here’s what I spent on my brief yet memorable stop in Prizren:

  • Budva to Prizren Bus: €20
  • Prizren to Tirana Bus: €15
  • Food: €5
  • Bag Storage at Coffee Station: €1

Total: €41

Travel from Tirana’s East Bus Terminal:

After arriving at Tirana’s East Bus Terminal, I had two options to reach the city center: public transportation or a taxi. Feeling exhausted, I chose the latter. For €12, I hailed a taxi via the Speed Taxi Albania app and made it to my hostel within 20 minutes. Pro tip: always carry cash, as taxis typically don’t accept cards.

Though my time in Prizren was short, it was packed with warmth, stunning views, and unforgettable connections with the locals. This small city left a big impression, and I know I’ll return someday—hopefully for a much longer stay.
