If you find yourself with a layover in Minneapolis, you have a fantastic opportunity to explore one of the most vibrant areas in the Twin Cities. With nearly 7 hours to spare, here’s a quick guide to make the most of your time.

Arrival and Transportation

Upon landing at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) at 14:00, I headed straight to the Mall of America. Despite the rainy and cold weather, I was excited to make the most of my layover. Conveniently, the mall is connected to Minneapolis via the Metro Transit light rail. A round-trip ticket costs approximately $4.

The Mall of America is not just a shopping center; it’s an experience. Here are some quick facts:

  • Size: It’s the largest mall in the United States, spanning over 5.6 million square feet.
  • Stores: Home to more than 520 stores, offering everything from high-end fashion to unique local boutiques.
  • Attractions: Features the Nickelodeon Universe, the nation’s largest indoor theme park, and the SEA LIFE Minnesota Aquarium.

My Itinerary

  1. 14:30 – 15:00: I arrived at Mall of America via light rail.
  2. 15:00 – 16:30: I explored the Nickelodeon Universe. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or just looking for some fun, the rides here are sure to entertain.
  3. 16:30 – 17:30: I grabbed lunch at the food court. A delicious bowl of ramen cost around $9.
  4. 17:30 – 18:30: I visited the SEA LIFE Minnesota Aquarium. It was a great way to relax and enjoy some incredible marine life.
  5. 18:30 – 19:00: I did some shopping and picked up a souvenir to remember my visit.
  6. 19:00 – 19:30: I headed back to the airport via light rail.
