After an exhilarating 23-hour stay in Puerto Vallarta, I was ready to explore the vibrant heart of Mexico – Mexico City. My journey began with a flight from Puerto Vallarta (PVR) at 17:25, arriving in Mexico City (MEX) at 19:10 on VivaAerobus VB1169.

What is CDMX?

CDMX stands for Ciudad de México, which is Spanish for Mexico City. It is the capital and largest city of Mexico, known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and bustling urban life. The city is a major economic, political, and cultural hub in Latin America.

Day 1: Arrival and First Impressions

Evening:

  • Arrival: I landed in Mexico City at 19:10 and headed straight to my hostel, which cost USD 60 for the three nights.
  • Dinner: After settling in, I took a leisurely evening stroll and enjoyed dinner at El Cardenal, a restaurant known for its traditional Mexican cuisine,

Day 2: Exploring the Ancient and Sacred

Morning:

  • Teotihuacan: I started my day with the Teotihuacan, Guadalupe Shrine & Tlatelolco Tour (USD 48). Walking among the ancient pyramids was awe-inspiring. The sheer scale and mystery of this archaeological site left me speechless.

Afternoon:

  • Guadalupe Shrine: Visiting this sacred site was a deeply moving experience. The shrine is a testament to the spiritual heritage of Mexico.
  • Tlatelolco: This historic neighborhood offered a glimpse into the pre-Columbian and colonial past of the city.
  • Lunch: I enjoyed a meal at Azul Histórico, located in a beautiful colonial building.

Evening:

  • Palacio de Bellas Artes: I spent the evening admiring the stunning architecture and catching a performance at this iconic cultural venue.
  • Dinner: I dined at Contramar, known for its seafood and vibrant atmosphere.

Day 3: A Taste of Mexico City

Morning:

  • Frida Kahlo Museum (Casa Azul): I visited the former home of Frida Kahlo in Coyoacán and learned about her life and art.
  • Coyoacán Market: I explored the local market for souvenirs and snacks.

Afternoon:

  • Museo Nacional de Antropología: I spent the afternoon at one of the world’s most important anthropology museums, located in Chapultepec Park.
  • Lunch: I tried Pujol, one of Mexico City’s top fine dining restaurants, for a memorable culinary experience.

Evening:

  • Xochimilco: I took a colorful boat ride through the canals of Xochimilco. The lively atmosphere with music and food on board was a perfect way to end my trip.
  • Dinner: I experienced the rustic charm of Rosetta, offering a blend of Mexican and Italian cuisine.

Departure: Heading Back Home

After a whirlwind exploration, it was time to head back. My departure schedule was packed:

  • 06:00 to 13:00: Final exploration of Mexico City.
  • 16:50 to 19:00: Flight from Mexico City to San Salvador on Avianca AV431.
  • 1-hour change in San Salvador.
  • 20:00 to 02:40: Flight from San Salvador to New York on Avianca AV570.
  • Connection flight from New York to Dammam.
